Cheyenne and I road tripped today to Bottineau, North Dakota. Tomorrow she starts her week at International Music Camp which is held at the Peace Gardens and I thought it would be prudent to head out a day early to make sure we had no unexpected setbacks.
We spent the trip chatting, laughing and rockin’ out to 80’s party tunes (think Blondie, Billy Idol, M.C. Hammer, Technotronic, Salt N’ Pepa and even Olivia Newton John). It was a blast. Presently we are luxuriating at Bottineau’s Super 8 Motel (never say that we don’t live large) and planning our big agenda for tomorrow.
This is Cheyenne’s first experience with camp. I am delighted that she has the opportunity to attend. She received a scholarship from West Fargo School District and is only one of two STEM students attending.
So here we are in Bottineau ready to descend upon the Peace Gardens tomorrow so Cheyenne can have her first camp experience; but truly, the best part of the trip in my mind has already taken place – it was in the getting here.
Cheyenne took some photos while we were driving in the lovely 30 or so mile strip between Rugby and Dunseith. If you haven’t had the opportunity to travel that route this time of year I strongly recommend it. It is like a breath of fresh air and when you can share it with your 12 year old who during the trip was gracious enough to join you in an exhuberant rendition of You Can’t Touch This with her crazy mother - well then, life really doesn’t get any better than that.
