Well it is that time again – time for NDSU’s 4th Annual Preparedness Expo! The Expo is sponsored by the Emergency Management Student Association and is a fab event that is free and open to the public. It is held in the Memorial Union and will run 10 AM – 4 PM today and features speakers, booths, first responder vehicles and of course rubber ducks.
The ducks that attend the conference each year are given away to help reinforce the messages created as part of a class project wherein students have to create preparedness public service announcements (PSAs) using rubber ducks. The PSAs and the ducks are typically a highlight of each Expo. It is not uncommon to see rubber ducks in offices across the campus – slowly but surely they are infiltrating the collective NDSU psyche (bahaha – our evil preparedness plan is working!!!).
We have a lot of fun with the duck PSA project. It is a great way to start the semester. Below are snapshots of my students with their personal ducks having fun. They are a great group!! Working with students like this is the reason I love my job!
If you have spare time today pop over and visit what I affectionately call Duck-Palooza 2011. I will be in my standard duck robe and slippers and all the bright and shiny people above will be there to tell you about their PSAs and preparedness. Come see us – we take our preparedness seriously.
