Last year when the 2011-2012 school calendar for West Fargo School District was created a mid-winter break was scheduled for this week. I must admit that when I first saw the timing of the week – two weeks before NDSU’s spring break – I wished they had consulted with me.
When it was all said and done, I just reconciled myself to the fact that no one needs a break mid-winter more than K-12 teachers. They have a pretty intense job and during a typical North Dakota winter their charges are likely about as stir crazy as they can get come the end of February. So I get it, even if it wasn’t my ideal timeframe choice.
But with the current weather developments I must conclude that someone in the West Fargo School District is clearly psychic. While other school districts will face decisions about late opens and early closures, the West Fargo team will be secure in the knowledge that they picked exactly the right week for a mid-winter break.
I’d sure like to talk to the person who informed the mid-winter break scheduling – maybe that person could help me pick some lottery numbers.
