I love creative judgments. A Municipal Court judge in Cleveland ordered a 32 year old woman who “was caught on camera driving on a sidewalk to pass a Cleveland school bus that was unloading children” to stand outside at a busy Cleveland intersection with a sign that read – “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.” The woman’s license was also suspended for 30 days and she was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.

Apparently this woman, Shena Hardin, is a frequent offender on this front and the judge wanted to find a punishment that would stick. His thought was that public humiliation just may do the trick. Parents who have watched her gleefully go around the school bus many times with seemingly no regard for the danger involved in this behavior were happy to see her getting negative news attention as she stood out on the corner. They remain hopeful that this sentence will reform her behavior.
If you are having a hard time envisioning this scene – the driving on the sidewalk and the woman with her sign – watch the video here. Honestly, you have to just wonder and scratch your head some days at the stupidity of folks. But I am not wondering and scratching my head at the judge’s sign order…the only question I have for the judge is this – ever met the comedian Bill Engvall? Here’s your sign Ms. Hardin.
