Message received universe.

I saw a preview on an entertainment show for TLC’s new Extreme Cougar Wives reality show (see a write up on Huffington Post here).  And I have to say - as a woman who has long been labeled as a cougar – EWWWWW!  Apparently I was in the minor leagues when it came to cougaring as the preview featured a 76 year old who was going after a 25 year old.  Not only is this guy old enough to be her kid, he is old enough to be her grand kid.  Did I already say EWWWWW!?

Extreme Cougar Wives

Okay, that did it for me.  My days of cougaring are over.  True, I have a boyfriend and he is a whopping four years younger than me – so, I have been outside the cougaring mode for awhile; but, I have seen the future my friends and it wasn’t pretty.  Uff dah.

It is amazing how moments of clarity come to you.  There was something about the 76 year old’s attitude that reminded me of myself and I recognized at that instant that I didn’t like what I was seeing.  It was as if I was visited by the future Carol and given an opportunity to see where my current choices would take me.

Goodness, I am a guy and I see a picture of a 45 year old woman and think “Nope. way too young” and I am only 54. On the other hand, I have dated some women who are 60 and it wasn’t a problem at all for me when once it would have made me “ewwwwwwwww” to be 6 years younger.

I am happy for that cougar, at least she’s happy just before she dies in a year or so.
