Visually enchanting…

There are days when the visuals of a North Dakota winter are so enchanting that they almost seem contrived.  With the hoar frost, the blankets of snow covering roof tops, and the perfectly placed icicles it looks as if the area is the setting of a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie.  In reality, it is Mother Nature’s reminder of the beauty that is inherent in nature.

When you add the sundogs and the visual of rolling hills of snow in yards and fields where there are no hills at all – I cannot help but feel that we are keeping a big secret here. Folks think we are living in a frozen tundra bereft of beauty or joy – they think we are traumatized.  I don’t think they  realize the aesthetic value that soaks into one’s soul just by being able to take in nature’s perfect landscape.

I guess we can keep this magical landscape as our little secret.  Perhaps it is our bonus prize for tolerating the other things that winter brings – the less tolerable things like frigid cold, icy sidewalks, and snow shoveling.  Whatever the reason is – I’ll take it.  In all seasons, North Dakota is a place where nature’s true spirit is evident…and it is enchanting.

About Ms. C

I teach at NDSU...but I remain a student of life with all the enthusiasm that entails. My favorite saying is, "Sometimes you have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down." In the new forty that is what I am doing...building my wings.
