Feel twice as smart…

In the vein of better late than never I have to give a shout out to Big Lots! today.  I learned while looking at their website that they actually have a line item in their menu specifically designated for winter weather supplies.  Well, that just makes my little emergency management heart happy.  I wish I had happened upon this happy realization earlier so that I could have shared it more timely.

Oh sure, I know many, many stores sell winter weather items and may even have line items for them on their websites.  I hold the Big Lots! effort in higher esteem for two reasons: 1) It is a store of eclectic offerings and closeouts, hence grouping these items collectively together requires intent and effort; and, 2) The store’s price point tends to be lower than other stores on many items, hence they serve a different consumer audience that may not be as likely to purchase these types of items otherwise.

I cannot attest to the value or quality of any one of these items offered at Big Lots!, but I can say that offering a variety of options for preparedness at a variety of price points is important.  Smart shoppers want to pay less, not more, for the same item that is offered at other stores – hence, Big Lots!  Also, by the offering of these items by Big Lots! awareness is raised in their specific consumer niche about the need to be prepared for winter weather.

The up-side to my being so late in the game to realize and share this with you dear readers is that I can plant the seed of winter weather preparedness for next year with those shoppers who are die-hard bargain hunters.  As regular Big Lots! shoppers know, the store clearances out seasonal items at the end of each season.  That is how I got my adorable little white iron rose settee bench for my yard for a song at the end of last summer.  It was a reasonable price to begin with (they have it again this year), but I was busy and never got around to grabbing one.  The fact that I got one for even less made me feel twice as smart (and that doesn’t happen often enough). ;-)

Prepare yourself to be prepared for next year’s winter at a reduced cost.  Big Lots! has a whole collection of items designed to make you feel twice as smart and a whole lot more prepared…what’s not to love about that?
