Hello Jersey Shore!

Well, here I am in New Jersey.  Mike, his kids, Cheyenne, and I are out visiting his family and also doing a short visit to DC.  I met Mike’s family a little over a year and half ago when we visited them in Florida and absolutely love them!  They are my kind of people to be sure.

Mike’s family lives in Brick, New Jersey which is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the shoreline.  This area was hit hard by Sandy – particularly closer to the shoreline.  Tonight we went to the Point Pleasant Boardwalk which has rebuilt sections damaged in the storm.  As I understand it, there are still many areas/folks in recovery mode.  This is not uncommon in such a large event.  Long after the media minute has passed, there are folks trying to refocus their lives and move forward. Seeing as it has been less than a year and there have been so many other major events  – I would say the recovery is coming along nicely.  There is nothing like experiencing an event first-hand to give folks an appreciation of how long the recovery process can be.

Tonight I leave you with a handful of photos from our evening on the Boardwalk (which was packed).  My summary of the experience – great Italian ice, lots of families, and just enough folks that look like they belong in the show Jersey Shore to make it all feel authentic. ;-)

About Ms. C

I teach at NDSU...but I remain a student of life with all the enthusiasm that entails. My favorite saying is, "Sometimes you have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down." In the new forty that is what I am doing...building my wings.
