Thanksgiving is a time when we focus intently on gratitude. Surrounded by family, friends, food, and laughter it is much easier to be grateful for what we have. Gratitude fills our hearts and carries us happily through the holiday season. It is a lens that challenges us to appreciate all we have in our life and all we are regardless of what we have or where we are in our journey.
Alas, gratitude is more than a simple line in a prayer or a seasonal affect, it is a choice…a way of being. And make no mistake my friends, it isn’t always an easy place to get to – some days it is downright difficult. When things in your life are going in the wrong direction it is easy to start sinking into the quicksand of negativity and despair. Indeed, gratitude in those moments may seem like an unreachable place mired down in the deepest recesses of your soul. But it is there that perspective and grace can be found and nurtured. It is there that you can find the firm ground to re-center yourself. In gratitude is the appreciation that the universe has a plan for you and that your journey is not merely a series of random moments, days, weeks, and years.
This Thanksgiving I challenge you to think about the ways in which you will carry gratitude across all your days – and I do mean all your days – the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is not easy, but regularly accessing gratitude as you traverse your days will bring you to a happier, more peaceful life. I want that for all of you.
Have a lovely Thanksgiving and holiday season – may the grace of gratitude carry you through all your days.
